Microneedling

Microneedling is a very safe and effective skin rejuvenation method. Having made its debut in the 1990s, it has recently become a popular dermatological treatment. The impressive technological advances with the advent of new pen-like devices substituting classic dermarollers, in combination with new multifunctional mesotherapy products have rekindled the interest in Microneedling as a therapeutic option. It is especially suited for patients who desire treatments with little or no recovery, while still attaining measurable results.

Microneedling pens are pen-like electronic devices that feature detachable, single-use sterile tips that contain a variable number of very thin, short needles. The needles vibrate in and out the skin, penetrating at a preset depth of a few millimeters, thus producing a series of micro punctures on the surface of the skin. These micro wounds trigger a healing response which rejuvenates the epidermis and produces new collagen in the skin. The microdots close in a few hours, while the collagen synthesis and remodeling continues for several months. During the Microneedling treatment, the open micro wounds can be used as drug delivery portals, since pharmaceutical or mesotherapy products applied to the skin are instantly absorbed to the deeper layers.

Microneedling is performed after skin has been numbed with anesthetic cream and thoroughly cleansed with antiseptic lotion. Treatment usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes and is well tolerated.

After the treatment, the skin is slightly irritated. The redness lasts for about 1 to 3 days, after which the skin fully recovers.

Medical recommendations are made regarding skin care before and after the procedure.

Results are visible within a few days after the treatment and skin texture continues to improve for many weeks after the procedure. Nevertheless, for more measurable results, treatment protocols suggest a Microneedling session per month for 2 to 4 months.

Microneedling is a treatment that can be safely applied to any skin type, all year round, with excellent results.
